About Me

Hello! I'm Rohan Jha, a 12th-grader at Cinco Ranch High School. I've always been passionate about solving problems and creating a lasting impact to serve humanity. The complexity of numbers mesmerized me then, and serving the community has inspired me ever since. I spend weekends and evenings trying to understand the mysteries of mathematics and dreaming about a better world.
In middle school, I participated in math competitions such as AMC 8 & 10 and Mathcounts, which introduced me to problems demanding persistence and creativity. These experiences inspired my determination to tackle challenging problems and eventually led me to address real-world issues such as the gender disparity in education.
During my visits to India, I observed that numerous girls were unable to pursue schooling and were often forced into early marriage or household chores. This issue deeply disturbed me, inspiring me to conduct scientific research on girls' education. My findings were published in a prestigious international journal namely Oxford Open Economics, and in US and Indian media.
I leveraged my girls' education research to create real-world impacts by improving infrastructure (library and building), increasing the number of teachers, and driving social awareness for education in rural India. This led to the establishment of two libraries serving 400+ students, appointment of two additional teachers, and the construction of the first school building sheltering over 150 students. I am actively enhancing student engagement in libraries through student competitions and awards, and expanding the initiatives through social awareness and a potential collaboration with Pratham USA.
Furthermore, I've also published research papers on topics such as assessment of carbon emissions reduction in US, carbon emissions from data centers estimation and mitigation, prediction of S&P 500, and profitability improvement for cyclical businesses in notable journals like Frontiers in Sustainability, Intersect: The Stanford Journal of Science, Technology, and Society, and the American journal of Student Research. These deepend my passion for undergraduate at the interface of economics, business, computer science while strengthening my drive to solve complex problems through my interests in latest AI data science and other tools.
Outside of research and academics, I founded the Idea to Impact (Economics) club at Cinco Ranch High School to enhance learning to solve business problems and create social impact, served as a VP for Mu Alpha Theta, am coaching middle school students for math competitions, and enjoy sports and serving humanity.

Research on Economics, Sustainability, and Business
My research focuses on areas impacting humanity such as economics (girls' education in India), sustainability (emissions reduction), and business (profitibality improvement) topics through data analytics, surveys, and interviews under the guidance of Prof. Raghunath Singh Rao of University of Texas (UT) at Austin and Prof. Priyanka Tripathi of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna, India. Previously, Prof. Mazhar Islam of Loyola University New Orleans guided me. I have two peer-reviewed papers in international journals and one more under review along with two international conference acceptances. Previously, I published three papers in high school student journals.

Inauguration of the library at Middle School Fulbari, a school established in 1950, which has been serving around 1,000 families since its inception (Dec 2024).
Inauguration of the library at Primary School Nai Tola, Fulbari, serving an area with a literacy rate of approximately 20%. The community has faced significant challenges in accessing educational resources until recently along with a lack of awareness (Jan 2025)..

We established libraries in two schools: Middle School Fulbari and Primary School Nai Tola Fulbari, located in a rural Indian village namely Fulbari in the district of Araria, Bihar, India. The village is remote and has a low literacy rate. The aim is to foster curiosity, enhance learning, and create new opportunities for students. These libraries house over 1,000 books covering literature, motivation, health, and foundational course materials with further addition of books, based on student input. They will benefit over 400 students and have been widely featured in local media, helping to raise social awareness.

Rohan and Rishabh influencing the District Education Officer to build a school building sheltering over 150 students and appoint two additional teachers at Primary School Nai Tola, Fulbari (Jan 2025).
During our visit to Nai Tola School in Fulbari, I and Rishabh were surprised to see the school condition. Students were under a shade (no school building) and students were visibly uncomfortable. Determined to help those students, they raised the issue with the District Magistrate (DM), District Educational Officer (DEO) and gained commitment. After numerous follow-up and aligning villegers and teachers, DEO recently informed us that the construction of building has been approved.
View Progress & ImpactFurthermore, we found that only two teachers were responsible for teaching 160 students across grades 1-5. Realizing this challenge for both teachers and students, we brought this to the attention of the district administration. We again gained their commitment. With frequent follow-ups and sharing key information and data, appointment of two more teachers took place. As a result, the school now has four teachers, ensuring improved educational resource for students.

Interaction with students about the impact of education through board games at Middle School Fulbari.
We proactively promoted social awareness about the disparities in girls' education. By organizing large gatherings with the villagers, we highlighted the importance of accessible education. As identified in our research papers, raising awareness about girls' education is one of the most effective ways to drive societal transformation. Furthermore, our efforts were featured in multiple newspapers, amplifying these initiatives and encouraging others to contribute to reduce gender disparity in education.
